The Department of Sanskrit was established in the year 1993. Since its inception the department has been providing quality education in Sanskrit to the students of the College with utmost sincerity and dedication. The main objective of the department is to encourage the students to get acquainted with the rich cultural heritage of India. Sanskrit belongs to the Indo-European languages and is the root of many Indian languages. It is a scientific language and the predominant language of Indian culture and civilization. It has the rich tradition of linguistic, philosophical literary texts. As per the CBCS syllabus of Gauhati University, the department covers the various fields like Vedic civilization, Classical Sanskrit literature, Indian philosophy, ancient Indian scientific literature, Modern Sanskrit literature etc. The department also celebrates different programs like Sanskrit Divas, Gita Jayanti, Kalidas Divas and other Sanskrit related events every year. At present, three permanent faculty members are working in the department and many students have successfully passed out from the department. Many of them are also working in different sectors.
