The Department of Economics has been functioning in Chatia College since the inception of the institution. At the very beginning (or for a long time) the department as well as the institution was in “Venture stage”. The basic objective of introducing the department was to provide higher education for the economically backward students of rural, tea gardens, and minority communities of greater Naduar areas through proper guidance. The department secured the ‘Permanent Affiliation’ from Gauhati University up to Part -II General course from the session 2009-10 vide EC Res No. R/EC-01/2010/07(19) dated 23/10/2010. The department started offering honours (major) course from 1996 and at present it offers both general course and major/honours in undergraduate level under CBCS mode of Gauhati University. The department has a library for the benefit of both the teachers and students of the department and books are issued to students and teachers according to their need. The Faculty:
